Italian humor

Who says Italian espresso engineers don't have a riotous sense of humor?

On Gimme's vintage E61 machine, the engineers really outdid themselves. In the photo, the blue arrow points to a little chrome-plated fitting. The yellow arrow points to a small knob. When you twist the knob counterclockwise, a thin stream of pressurized, 200 degree water shoots from the chrome fitting DIRECTLY AT YOUR CROTCH.

Hahahahaha! It's genius!

Hi Ernst:

The chrome fitting has a barbed barrel, like it was designed for rubber tubing to be pushed over it. After that, I don't know, but I prefer the Italian practical joke explanation. :-)

Because of how they programmed the buttons, when you press the hot water button (which appears to be the brew button), hot water from the steam boiler shoots right onto your arm. Luckily nobody was hurt at our little Vancouver shin-dig.

So I heard. Luckily for me, the GS3 we got was sorted out for buttons, everything in the right place. Although it may just be that I haven't discovered the booby traps yet!

I heard the original purpose was to flush salt from the softener. The valve handle lets the same cold water that goes to the machine out into the drip tray. When you put salt into the water softener you flush it through the drip tray until it tastes like fresh water again. Now your softener has been regenerated. It is only supposed to trickle and it should not be hot. That is strange that it comes from the boiler. Is this the original machine or the re-issue?

Isaac, thanks for the interesting information and the correction about the temperature. Kevin tells me that it's warm only at the very beginning, then it is cold, as you say.

Just a note, your telling of he original observation, coupled with the photo are the funniest things I've ever seen/read. I had a great loud laugh alone in my room. Thanks.
